The Power of Natural Sweeteners

At The Mimistry, we are always working on ways to make desserts that taste amazing but also align with a health-conscious lifestyle. One of our favourite ways to do this is by using natural sweeteners made from coconuts. Coconut sugar and coconut syrup are gentle on the body, full of goodness, and perfect if you are avoiding refined sugar.

If you love sweet things but want to feel good about what you’re eating, coconut sweeteners are a simple swap that makes a big difference.

Why We Use Coconut Sugar

Coconut sugar comes from the sap of coconut palm trees. It’s much less processed than regular white sugar, so it keeps more of its natural nutrients, like iron, zinc, calcium, and potassium.

It’s also lower on the glycemic index, which means it doesn’t cause big sugar spikes and crashes. This makes it a great option if you’re looking for more balance. Best of all, it’s naturally free from gluten and dairy. So it fits beautifully into most lifestyles and is safe for people with sensitivities.

Coconut Syrup: Liquid Gold

Coconut syrup is another favourite in our kitchen. It’s made from the same plant as coconut sugar, just in a liquid form. It’s packed with natural electrolytes like potassium and magnesium, which help keep you hydrated and feeling good. Plus, it has antioxidants that support your body and boost overall wellness.

It’s what gives our vegan Chocolate Raspberry Cake that rich, deep sweetness—without needing refined sugar.

More Than Just Sweet

Coconut sugar and syrup also contain MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides), which support energy and metabolism. They’re a gentle way to satisfy your sweet tooth without overwhelming your system.

They also contain inulin, a type of fibre that supports gut health by feeding the good bacteria in your digestive system.

How We Use Coconut Sweeteners at The Mimistry

You’ll find coconut sweeteners in all of our cakes and tarts—like the vegan Chocolate Coffee Cake and our Lemon Meringue Tart. These ingredients help us make desserts that are indulgent and delicious. We love to use organic raw honey as well, which you can find in our Orange Honey minis or our Honey Walnut Teacakes.

For us, it’s not just about cutting out what’s “bad”, it’s about choosing better, more nourishing options that still feel like a treat.

A Little Note:
Coconut sugar and syrup are still natural forms of sugar, so they’re best enjoyed in moderation. And while we use ingredients that are gluten-free, dairy-free, and minimally processed, our kitchen does handle nuts—so please keep that in mind if you have allergies.
